Hi Barb,

 

Would you be willing to send this picture out to the basset hound club? We really need to get this guy into a foster home. This family has wanted to relinquish their basset for quite a while and we just haven't had a foster home.  They just are not prepared to deal with what we all would call pretty normal basset behavior.  This basset was born in April 2005 and is a good-sized smooshy red & white boy at 68 pounds.  BBR does cover any medical expenses. I think it would be a fairly short-term commitment because he is such a cutie and would likely get adopted fairly quickly.

 

The family states that they are losing patience with him and I don't like to let that situation continue long.  As far as I can tell, the biggest issues are that he is a big counter-surfer and will get into the garbage.  He just doesn't listen like the other dogs they have had (nonbassets).  He also likes to sleep in the bed which they don't like.  He loves stuffed toys and there are a couple that they don't like him to have because he gets possessive of them.  You know these behaviors would be not a big issue for most basset people.  He has been around children all of his life though he would need to be watched around kids in diapers (guess why LOL).  He is OK with being left alone all day and gets along well with other dogs.  Not sure how he would do with cats, he has been scratched by one so barks at them if they come near.  Otherwise they say he is a pretty quiet basset except he does bark at the vacuum cleaner.

 

If you think it is OK to send this out that would be great.  I will be meeting him on Saturday so I will have a better feel for him and can tell any interested parties about him.  Feel free to give my phone number to any interested or even put it in the notice.
